Week 2 - Matt 5:7-12

7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
   for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

  1. I agree with the Character Set idea. Well said.

As I think about the Beatitudes it reminds me that there is nothing I can do by myself to earn salvation. And living a life centered on Christ requires me to submit myself wholly to the Holy Spirit's guidance. It's all about the choices I make about priorities in my life.

None of the attributes outlined in the Beatitudes comes naturally for me. They all require me daily to rely on God unfailing grace. I am still working on the dying to myself.(Galatians 2:20)

  2. Yes...being poor in spirit or meek are are the toughest for me. I tend to struggle with my own pride and sense of self-worth. I have to remind myself daily that God has a plan even though I may not yet see/understand what that plan is.

  3. …I hear ya Mike and Aggie. I have had to deal with false accusations due to my faith and that of our company. This has been very difficult for me because I have a real “Justice” issue. Verse 11 really speaks to me but I still get fired up. I need to switch that out with gladness. Lord Help!...
